Acceptable Identification for Mail Pickup and Other Services

USPS® updated the Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) with the list of acceptable identification (IDs) that customers must show when picking up various types of mail and applying for other services. Prior to the update, the identification that was required for USPS products and services varied from the DMM, Post Office Operations Manual (POM), International Mail Manual (IMM), USPS.com, and other documentation.

The DMM now includes a new section 608.10.0, Forms of Identification that identifies the acceptable forms of primary ID for product and services and secondary ID to confirm the physical address for establishing service.

The Postal Service will accept certain U.S. State or Federal Government IDs, U.S. or Foreign Passports, Matricula Consular (Mexico), or NEXUS (Canada).  Also, U.S. corporate or university/college photo IDs in limited cases.  When ID is required, the ID must be current.
